What to know about PNG compression

PNG uses lossless compression, so it is well suited to graphics, screenshots and images where preserving exact pixel information matters.

PNG file size depends heavily on the image contents and how the file was originally encoded. Because of that, reprocessing a PNG does not guarantee a smaller file.
